Meilhards

The Gold Rush! Some name of places or streams remind us the existence of former gold mines, the “aurières”, operated from the Gallo-Roman era to the beginning of the 20th century.

At the center of the village, admire the castle that overlooked during the Middle Ages. It was rebuilt during the 18th century after a blaze.

In the 17th century, the Marquis Philippe de Meilhards left its mark on the municipality history becoming the Louis XIV marshall. Its tombstone is kept in the Saint Yrieix church, where you can also admire the altarpiece and the frescoes lately renovated.

At the south of the market town, the Sainte Radegonde fountain is known to be miraculous. This fountain was first venerated in the pagan culture, and has been Christianised later. Then then built the chapel Sainte Radegonde.

Come enjoy the lake of Meilhards: you can go fishing.

Take the path “Lovely landscapes and historical heritage” the time of a walk.
